“Gen. Palparan’s incorrigible, remorseless and unmitigated demonization of defenseless civilians merits him a place behind bars more than a seat in Congress.” This was the statement of Atty. Edre Olalia, Secretary General of the National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers (NUPL), in response to reports that retired Major General Jovito Palparan was planning to run for a partylist seat in Congress in 2013 on the basis of his “expertise in security.”

IADL Resolution on the Potential Use of the Veto in the Debate on the Admission of the State of Palestine to the United Nations

Therefore, if a majority of the security council approves recognition of the Palestinian State, even if there is a veto by any permanent member, the General Assembly may and must vote on the admission of the Palestinian State and if approved by the General Assembly the United Nations must ignore the veto and admit Palestine because use of the veto in this context would be against the principles against the principles of the Charter and therefore illegal.
